Birdland was filled to the rafters with fans and friends of the original “Jekyll and Hyde” star Robert Cuccioli to hear him sing songs from the Great American Songbook and his first solo CD “A Standard Love.”
The evening of music was all about . . . love! The discovery, excitement, romance – followed by years of therapy! The bottom line is a CD timeline of music that begins in the formative years of life and love with “The Look of Love,” “How Little We Know” and matures with songs like “Our Love Is Here to Stay,” “A Fine Romance” followed by the angst of breakup and sadness -“I Wanna Be Around.”
But after all the disappointments and turmoil, love blooms again – “Zing Went the Strings of My Heart” as the heart becomes a “Prisoner of Love” moving along to “Nice n’ Easy/Time After Time/Day by Day” as one tries to figure out “How Do You Keep The Music Playing.”
Cuccioli displays a wry sense of humor and twinkly sparkle just in the right places. This crooner is a sincere and honest performer. CD arranger/accompanist Barry Levitt gave great support as always, aided by Jon Burr on bass and Alvester Garnett on drums.
Not to leave the audience wanting, Cuccioli reprised the song he is most well known for singing: “This Is The Moment” from Jekyll and Hyde. If you want to see Robert Cuccioli in another dual role, check out “Spiderman: Turn off the Dark” on Broadway where he is currently playing Norman Osborn/Green Goblin.
The Times Square Chronicles' intent is to bring a sense of community to the Times Square's three zip codes - 10018, 10019, 10036 and beyond.
