NEWSical the Musical, got a boost with the casting of Gossip columnist Perez Hilton and Broadway’s Leslie Kritzer. Rick Crom’s Drama Desk nominated off-Broadway musical revue, began yesterday for four weeks with this dynamic duo.
The show right now has digs at John Travolta, Anderson Cooper, Chick-Fil-A, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, the fight for marriage equality and the 2012 Presidential Election and every headline in the paper set to song. Look for Perez Hilton to spoof himself. The best part is the show changes daily.
Perez Hilton tweeted “I am beyond thrilled, nervous and zen about making my New York theater debut.”
Leslie Kritzer recently starred in the Kander/Ebb revue First You Dream at the Kennedy Center and A Letter to Harvey Milk at NYMF (Best Individual performance award). Broadway credits include Sondheim on Sondheim, A Catered Affair (Drama Desk Nomination), Legally Blonde (Clerence Derwent Award for Most Promising Performer) and Hairspray. Television audiences have seen Leslie in Law & Order SVU” (NBC) “3LBS” (CBS) and “Jason and Jessica”(HBO).
This new casting and the need for comedy for the coming elections should see ticket sales moving forward.
