Norris Church Mailer Dies, Maybe Death will Bring Peace

Norris Church Mailer died last night at her home in Brooklyn Heights. Norris was the widow of author Norman Mailer, who died three years earlier, November 10, 2007.

Earlier this year T2C’s Sulome Anderson, reviewed her memoir “A Ticket to the Circus,” and wrote an expose on the Women of Norman Mailer. Norris also penned “Windchill Summer” and “Cheap Diamonds,” all published by Random House. Random House was the longtime publisher of the Mailer family.”

I’ve known the Mailer family in all incarnations of wives, ex-wives, children, lawyers and associates. Somehow, it seems that my life is intertwined with them. Actress Beverly Bently, Norman’s 4th wife is a great friend of mine. Norris had her son Steven as her ring boy when she married Norman. She was married in the house that Bently and Norman were married and died in the bedroom that was previously Bev’s.

Norris was born January 31, 1949, and grew up in Atkins, Arkansas. She married Larry Norris in 1969, giving birth to a son, Matthew, in 1971. There are rumors that have never been substantiated that she had an affair with Bill Clinton. Divorced in 1974, she met Mailer in 1975 who was still married to Bently. Her son John Buffalo was born in 1978. In 1980 Norman divorced Bently, married Carol Stevens for a day and then married Norris.

It is said in”A Ticket to the Circus.” When Norris was diagnosed with Cancer, Norman stayed away. Her son John Buffalo, will be playing Renfield in the Off-Broadway production of Dracula.

Maybe in death Norris will find some peace.
