MY VIEW written by Stephen Sorokoff
When I watch Nicolas, I’m reminded of Michael J Fox and “Back To The Future.”
Some of us (me) long for the “good old days,” at least musically, and Nicholas King a superb contemporary singer, is able to re-create the exciting feeling of shows at the Coconut Grove, Latin Quarter, Copa, Michaels Pub and similar venues.
A little bit of Bouble, a whole lot of Torme, add in some Sinatra and you’ve got Nicholas. He knows how to hit the notes with authority and swing at any speed.
Remember all those great musicians that backed up those guys? Mike Renzi, master pianist arranger, is in charge of that department. The tempos are always “in the pocket,” the tunes only the best, and Nicolas is the perfect person to bring this music to today’s world. No wonder show biz greats always attend his shows. Tony Danza & Liza Minnelli got so turned on they joined Nicholas on stage for an impromptu performance.
I happened to be standing by the door as a couple peered in mid way through the show. They couldn’t make up there mind to come in. As Tony & Liza were on the Iridium stage, I had to assure them it wasn’t one of those impostor shows. (If you know me I guess you can deduce I did the opposite). This show goes into the Cabaret Time Capsule and should be seen in the future.
