Jasmine "Jazzy"Jordan Crosses The Finish Line in Times Square

High school junior Jasmine “Jazzy” Jordan is completing the final miles of her 9-month run across the United States to raise awareness for a friend who died of cancer without health insurance. “Jazzy” plans to cross her finish line tomorrow, Between 10:00AM and 3:00 PM, June 15, in New York City in front of ABC Studios in Times Square.

Her father Lee Jordan issued a call for truckers in the Northeast to join Jazzy on the home stretch, and particularly the last leg into Manhattan from Ft. Lee, N.J., Tomorrow. “If you’ve ever laced up a pair of tennis shoes and run a block or a mile or five or eight miles, then definitely come out for the last leg.” It’s an 8-mile leg, he added.

Beginning her run in California in September, her father escorted her in a Ford F250. Daily updates appear on the Jasmine “Jazzy” Jordan Facebook Fan Page detailing her progress. She did it while keeping up with her homework and finishing the school year with honors.

Foot injuries, heat, freezing rain, barking dogs and a North Carolina accident which totaled her fathers truck, have not set her back.

She has done it all to raise awareness of the St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to professional truck drivers who have medical problems and who cannot otherwise afford health care.

She ran 9 months for the sole purpose of helping others. Her close friend and driver of her family’s trucking business, Shelia Grothe, passed away on April 17th, 2009,  after having a 2 year battle with cancer.  From that day forward, Jazzy vowed and was determined to make a difference in the lives of those who could not afford medical insurance or coverage. 3200 miles, through hardship and setbacks this 17 year old is a hero and we welcome her with open arms.
