Julie Taymor at “Peter and the Starcatcher”

I was sitting in my seat talking to a fellow critic when I kept hearing from behind me, “Oh I love your work,” “You’re so talented,” and more accolades.  I wondered who it was and decided not to be rude and wait until intermission to figure out the mystery.

I adore Peter and the Starcatcher, so I was shocked to hear from behind me a string of criticism about the direction (which is genius), set ( so creative) and anything and everything. Now my curiosity was peaked, who was this person?  I stood up and low and behold it was none other than Julie Taymor. The other critic had not even recognized her (his eyes had been turned her way.)

Had she not been so snarky, I would have told her, “I actually loved her version of Spiderman and wished her luck.” Now, I just find her bitter and sad.

Moral of this and this past week: You never know who is behind you or in front of you and will hear your words. They may even be taken out of context. I speak from authority because this happened to me as well.
