According to various sources, Michael Feinstein’s luxurious cabaret room at the Loews Regency on Park Avenue, will no longer be as of January 2013 when the hotel begins renovations. In its place will be a new signature restaurant (for power breakfasts), lobby, guest rooms and gym updates.
Sad to see another cabaret space bite the dust, this just on the heels of the historical Oak Room at the Algonquin Hotel closing several months ago. Many wonderful celebrity acts graced the stage such as Barbara Cook, Petula Clark, Marilyn Maye, Stephanie Powers, Tony Danza, recently Jack Jones, as well as up and coming new talent. John Iachetti, the room’s director, has been the force behind the wonderful entertainment.
It appears that taking up the cabaret entertainment slack is the newly opened 54 Below which has already featured some of the best on Broadway – Patti Lupone, Brian d’Arcy James, Ben Vereen – and a host of talent from the cabaret sector.
Opening on September 4th at Feinstein’s is the man himself, Michael Feinstein, with the marvelous Marilyn Maye.
More information to come.
