Hot TV Shows To Watch This Fall

By Delaina Dixon and Maureen Martin

The weather is warm, but the DivaGals are already planning our Fall TV lineup, thanks to a week’s worth of network Upfronts that happened in the Times Square area last month. Here are some of our favorites to look out for!

CBS

Elementary (Thursdays, 10 p.m.)
WHAT IT’S ABOUT. This modern-day twist on the Sherlock Holmes tale features a female Watson (Lucy Liu) and the same peculiar detective who brilliantly solves crimes.
WHY YOU’LL WATCH. Three words: Jonny. Lee. Miller. There’s always been something compellingly mysterious about this actor. Now he’s playing the equally inexplicable Holmes – with an English accent to boot. We’ll watch just to see how he solves the crime – of delivering such devilishly good lines.

ABC

666 Park Avenue
WHAT’S IT ABOUT? What do you get when you mix gossip, fashion, and a dose of paranormal activity? We’ll find out when Vanessa Williams moves from sunny Wisteria Lane to Moody Manhattan’s posh 666 Park Avenue, loosely based on the book of the same name.
WHY YOU’LL WATCH. It’s going be good TV with Vanessa and Lost’s Terry O’Quinn headlining this cast. And where Vanessa Williams goes, we follow …

FOX

The Mindy Project
WHAT IT’S ABOUT. Mindy Kaling of The Office fame steps out of the cubicle and jumps into her own storyline as a prickly doctor who can’t seem to write the right prescription for love.
WHY YOU’LL WATCH. This isn’t a character you’re going to like right away. Mindy is brash and inappropriate at just the wrong time. But we can relate to the girl who spent her formative years watching rom-coms and hoping one day she’d find a real-life love story that had a happy Hollywood ending. We’re hoping she evolves along the way to create her own.

NBC

Animal Practice (Wednesdays, 8 p.m.)
WHAT’S IT ABOUT. Good doc with a bad attitude runs a veterinarian hospital with his own brand of style.
WHY YOU’LL WATCH. We’re not quite sold yet on Dr. George Coleman (played by Justin Kirk) who uses sick cats to pick up lonely chicks, but we’re loving Dr. Zaius, played by Crystal the Monkey. The Night of the Museum and Hangover Part II star is once again repping for all female primates, showing you can be in tiny and charge in the operating room!

The CW

Emily Owens, M.D. (Tuesdays, 9 p.m.)
WHAT IT’S ABOUT. The nerdy girl from high school grows up to be a brilliant surgeon-in-training, but learns that the first real-life lesson is that hospitals are still pretty much like high school.
WHY YOU’LL WATCH. We can admit we’re already hooked on Emily. She represents the unsure, insecure girl that sometimes seeps out in all of us, and we can’t help but root for her to come out on top. We have a good feeling that she will.
