You won your way into our hearts in so many ways. First as Laura Petrie, on “The Dick Van Dyke Show,” from 1961–1966; then as Mary Richards on “ The Mary Tyler Moore Show,” from 1970–1977. In the 80′s, Ordinary People saw you nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress and showed us that moms were not always perfect. Your charity work, especially for those who bark, gave animals a voice and with Bernadette Peters helped Animal rights move forward and raise funding with “Broadway Barks.” Getting diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while in your prime, saw you fighting to help others . Your bout with alcoholism, was eloquently spoken about and gave a voice to a once hidden disease. In May 2011, you underwent elective brain surgery to remove a benign meningioma and survived. You are a women to emulate.
T2C celebrates you with a clip from the 1967 film “ Thoroughly Modern Millie.” Even here you and Julie Andrews are telling women, just like Mary did in the 70’s how to be more.
T2C wishes you many more wonderful years.
The Times Square Chronicles' intent is to bring a sense of community to the Times Square's three zip codes - 10018, 10019, 10036 and beyond.
