My View written by Friar Stephen Sorokoff
Comedy sometimes has a touch of sadness attached to it. The evening was supposed to be hosted by Dean of the Friars Freddie Roman who curated the Festival for the Mahaiwe in Great Barrington. Freddie is, thankfully, on the mend and I’m sure he would have laughingly approved of his long-time friend Stewie Stone, Prior of the Friars, filling in. “Folks, this is what it’s all about - no videos, no special effects, no music, just a bunch of stand up comics taking the stage and us all having fun” – and with that Stewie, sending best wishes to Freddie, ended an evening that literally had a laugh a minute.
Being a Friar, I can attest to the fact that Stewie is a very funny man. Whether it be at the Friars Bar, dinning room, coat check line or men’s room, even a casual remark from Stewie is always funny. Freddie Roman assembled a wonderful bunch of funny people for this festival. Michele Balan (NBC’s Last Comic Standing), Tom Cotter (Finalist America’s Got Talent), Cory Khaney (Comedy Central Presents, The View, Bill Maher) and Dave Konig (HBO’s Hardcore TV, Law & Order). The audience didn’t Enter Laughing but they sure did on the way out as they signed giant Get Well cards to Freddie Roman.
