A Week of Fourth of July Fun from The Hamptons to The Upper Westside – A Personal Adventure with The Sensible Socialite

With the Fourth of July landing on Wednesday this year a lot of East Coast residents took advantage of turning one day of fun into a fantastic week of bliss.

Starting off the weekend in The Hamptons seemed to be on most people’s minds this year. Traffic was backed up for miles on Highway 27. Frustration of the bumper-to- bumper car action at least found a moment of relief in stopping roadside for a buttery delight of sweet corn.

“This is insane spending all this time to get here,” said Martha Bright of Maywood, NJ as she bought fruit at The Hayground Farm Fresh Stand. “But, it’s what you have to just expect when you come to a destination on a holiday.”

After sitting for hours it was good to get up and work up a sweat at Barry’s Bootcamp Opening Block Party in Wainscott. “Holidays in The Hamptons are about fun and great parties,” stated instructor Natalie Raitano. “Here you can come and work hard so you can play even harder later.”

Already in full play mode it was a quick drive away to the gorgeous beach to get in some sun and sand.  And in true New Yorker style even out East you are still going a mile a minute as you head to afternoon parties and poolside barbeques.

“The summer crowd is definitely getting bigger,” Carolyn Heft co-owner of The Hamptons Players

Club in East Hampton said. “This is a place of beauty in America and a perfect place to spend your holiday with your family and friends.”

After a trip back West to spend the remainder of the holiday week in Manhattan, the pace picks up by Wednesday at lunch with wall-to-wall parties all over the island.

One of the biggest ticket items was the Pier 92 Rooftop Beach Party featuring Wyclef Jean and Lil Jon. Thousands attended to hear the music and eat from some of the city’s best food trucks. “This is a great way to celebrate America today,” Kevin of Perth, Australia mentioned as he sat in a cabana drinking with friends. “There is live music and the crowd is having fun.”

From massive events to smaller more private affairs the city was full of people just loving the day. Down in The Lower East Side at the By Robert James private backyard event patrons and friends alike chowed down on homemade potato salad and hot dogs. As the sun began to set massive groups began to

make their way to the Westside of the island to get the best views of The 36th Annual Macy’s Fireworks Display.

At exclusive Upper Westside rooftops in the 60s partygoers listened to bands play music as the fireworks exploded in the night sky shortly after 9:20 p.m. The Hudson River melted into the skyline as the lights from the show sparked with fury in the night air.

It was a wonderful Fourth of July day and even better holiday week. Happy birthday America.
