By Suzanna Bowling and Uggie
One of the most beloved dogs in the world right now is the scene stealing Jack Russell in the Weinstein Production of The Artist. Uggie, born in 2002 is an actor famous for his roles in Mr. Fix It, Water for Elephants, and now the Academy’s silent nominee. He was adopted and saved from being sent to a dog pound by animal trainer Omar Von Muller. This veteran of films started his career with a touring dog talent show and in commercials before moving into the celluloid industry. Uggie was presented with the Palm Dog Award at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. Sadly the canine star is bravely struggling with a neurological disorder and was throughout the filming of the Oscar favorite. Just after the nominations, the 10-year-old Jack Russell announced his retirement from feature filmmaking and will do so after the awards ceremony. He lends a paw to host Billy Crystal. Just now reaching his potential, Uggie will take his final bow wow at the Oscars on February 26th. T2C had a chance to interview this showbiz trouper.
