Even though Couture Fashion Week has been generally less than acceptable, there was a light found in Nigerian designer, Zizi Cardow. Like a breath of fresh air, her collection featured evident care and an eye for true haute couture. Bright prints contrasted with mute browns and purples flowed down the runway creating a show made for an exotic woman with taste, class, and a true tribal tendency.
Featured in the collection were a few stunning transparent pieces which sparkled as they hugged the models’ bodies- an homage to the female. However, where the quality and point of view in the clothing were strong, the accessories fell short. In particular, the bloated black headwear looked incoherent, last minute, and irrelevant to the rest of the collection.
Overall the collection was a quiet yet strong group of beautifully made clothes, and compared to the other shows that evening, that’s a remarkable achievement.
