Do not count this legend out. Barbara Carroll plays piano like a dream, singing Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Richard Rodgers, Stephen Sondheim in other words the great American Songbook. Ms Carroll’s playing is a great way to relax with the arts and some terrific food. I could listen to her play all day. What she manages to coxes from the ivories is soothing and thrilling, then she sings and it’s like a conversation. “Old Friend,” from “Merrily We Roll Along,” in Carroll’s hands is a moment in time, like a thought that has to be said.
54 Below welcomes jazz legend Barbara Carroll for a series of seven exciting jazz brunches on September 9, 16 & 30 & October 7, 21 & 28 & November 11, 2012.
