Al Pacino Returns to Broadway

Heavy dramas with great actors are coming this fall to Broadway. Al Pacino returns to the boards in David Mamet’s “Glengarry Glen Ross,” opening at the Schoenfeld Theater in October.

Pacino, played real estate agent Ricky Roma in the 1992 film version. Onstage he’ll portray Shelly Levine, the older agent Jack Lemmon played in the movie.

Pacino has box office draw. In 2010 “The

Merchant of Venice,” grossed more than $1 million a week.

Also set are Daniel Sullivan (“The Columnist” “Merchant”) to direct and “Merchant” backers Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel alongside Jam Theatricals will produce. The producing team has a history with Mamet and will also have a hand in the new upcoming play “The Anarchist.”

Creative team includes set designer Eugene Lee (“Wicked”) and costume designer Jess Goldstein (“Newsies,” “Merchant of Venice”).

“The Best Man”  closes Sept. 9th. “Glengarry” begins previews October 16th and opens November 11th.
