Times Square Chronicles got a rare view of a private rehearsal for the opening of the New York Pops 30th Anniversary season. On October 12, 2012, 8:00pm at Carnegie Hall the season will open with Some Enchanted Evening: The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein. Musical Director/Conductor Steven Reineke leads the orchestra with guest stars Aaron Lazar, Kelli O’Hara, and Paulo Szot, Guest Artists Essential Voices USA. Judith Clurman, Music Director and Conductor, New York Theatre Ballet/ Diana Byer, Artistic Director.
The concert program features some of the most iconic music from the golden age of Broadway, including “Shall We Dance?” from The King and I, “If I Loved You” from Carousel and “Edelweiss” from The Sound of Music. Kelli O’Hara and Paulo Szot will reprise songs from their critically-acclaimed turns in South Pacific and will join Aaron Lazar in the title number from Oklahoma!. The New York Pops will be joined by New York Theatre Ballet to perform excerpts from Oklahoma’s famed “Dream Ballet” using the original choreography by the legendary Agnes de Mille.
